The best weed blockers vary by region. I like preen weed preventative. It is granular and can be applied to reduce the weeds from growing. Alternatively, you may try a fabric weed blocker. This may provide for mixed success, as the material breaks down and weeds can grow on top.

There are several great weed blockers available. Among the top of the list is the black weed block fabric. It works well because the weeds do not get sulight in order to grow. Pine straw, mulch, and rocks are also good choices. When using these product you must however use a very thick layer to block weeds.

A good quality polythene sheet is a great weed blocker. Plant your flowers through same and cover with a mulch of gravel or wood chips.

The absolute best way to prevent weeds is to use a pre-emergent. You want to spread the pre-emergent very early in the spring, preferrably before anything starts to come up. After that just spray anything that does come up and then repeat the process every year.

Cardboard and newspaper make great cheap to keep weeds out of plants and gardens. They can be layered and are able to break down in compost right where they are on the ground . Just add more layers.

Diffrent weed blockers are more appropriate in diffrent settings. I have seen some small urban yards converted entirly into a patch of limestone. I thought this might save me time mowing grass to replicate at my house! If you have a more rural dwelling, some pine chips work well, plus look nice, and are eventually biodegradable.

In a garden, use newspapers or plastic sheeting to block weeds. Plastic also works under mulch around shrubs and trees.

Use the weed and feed products that the major fertilizer companies put out. These will kill the weeds at the roots, which is what you want to prevent them from coming back. Also, when your lawn is strong and healthy it is more difficult for weeds to grow.

If you are able to use manure as mulching, it would be very easy to contain any weed that could be trying to germinate since it would not find the much needed sunlight to manufacture food for its survival and growth. Its effects on the soil is also good and therefore would save a lot than using chemicals.
