Walking with bare feet can expose people to puncture wounds if they step on something, but can also make the skin tougher, and more resistant to injury. The skin also becomes tanner, which lessens the paleness feet often have.

Walking in bare feet forces your muscles to work in ways that they are not used to working - in fact, the ways that the are truly designed to work. Shoes cannot replicate this movement entirely.
