Anesthesia can have many chemical make ups. General and local anesthesia have different makeups. General anesthesia is made of isoflurane, desflurane, sevoflurane and nitrous oxide.

Intravenous anesthesia uses thiopentone sodium, nitrous oxide, halothane, enflurane and isoflurane. Local anesthesia are prepares using benzocaine, procaine or lidocaine. Even narcotics are used during major surgery.

There are to many to name here. But, a few are (inhalation) Ethers, (chloroform, halothane, methoxyflurane) barbiturates, methohexital, thiopental) opioids, (alfentanil, fentanyl, sufentanil). Injection: Neuroactive steroids (alfaxalone, etomidate). Other general chemicals include ketamine, propanidid and propofol.
