There are actually many advantages to going to a community college before a four-year school. One is that it allows students to adjust to their college coursework much more easily than other schools. It is also much more inexpensive.

Community colleges tend to be more affordable than 4-year universities. They also tend to cater to residents' needs--for example, by providing certification programs that will help students get jobs in local industries. Furthermore, if you are interested in pursuing a trade, most community colleges provide apprenticeship programs and training courses in addition to offering academic degree programs.

If you are from a low income background, a community college may be the best option available, as it can offer you some higher education without costing an arm and a leg. Another possibility is that you are unclear as to what direction you want to go in for your career and this may be a cheap testing ground.

First of all, community colleges are better than attending no college at all because it is important to have a college degree. This increases your earning potential, and helps to focus you on future goals and help you specialize in a certain job arena. Community colleges are often cheaper than private colleges and have more diverse campuses age-wise.
