Aluminium clad windows are available in a variety of styles and colors and it is very low maintenance (although you will still need to take care of the wooden portion of the window). It will last a lot longer and is more secure. You might also try vinyl clad wood - excellent choice but a little expensive...

In my home I would always prefer the use of non petroleum based materials. This is for both ethical and health-related reasons, since petroleum based products such as vinyl not only have negative social implications, they also can off-gas and pollute indoor air.

You should get vinyl windows because you can see out of windows and not out of wood, especially wood covered in aluminum.

There is no doubt that the durability of aluminium clad wood windows is far better than that of vinyl windows. The temperature swings will destroy the hollow vinyl windows within a span of 5 years which does not happen in the case of wood windows. The only advantage will be price. Vinyl windows will cost you cheaper
