Vinyl will look like vinyl. Laminate flooring is very easy to install and if you go to a second hand store, a HUD store or a lumber liquidators, you can actually pick up hardwood laminates at a very reasonable price. Many hardware stores give free how to clinics for laminate installation.

Yes, we actually did that several years ago because I did not want carpet in my bedroom closets. We got a one-piece type vinyl floor for all the closets & it still looks great. Check a couple stores that have all their patterns displayed. You are sure to find one you like.
