There are no benefits from the state. Your husband may have had life insurance, assets, a pension, etc. which will be probated.

Survivor benefits have nothing to do with where you live. For details, contact the insurer or whatever organization provides the survivor benefits of which you are aware.

If you have children under the age of 18, the surviving spouse receives survivor benefits from social security for the children until the youngest is 18. If they have a pension, you can receive survivor benefits from their pension. Their 401K can be rolled over into yours or merely put in your name.

These program benefits apply throughout the nation, not just in Florida.  add a comment

Federal social-security survivor benefits may be avaiable. Florida widow(er)s may be entitled to dissent from a will disinheriting a spouse. Pensions and financial accounts may also devolve to surviving spouses.
