In the first paragraph, get your point across and write explicitely about that point! Make sure your words are spelled correctly and be sure you are "grammar correct".
Work Macro to Micro, or big to small. Start out with the big ideas on the article you're writting and then move into the details that describe what you're talking about.
Be sure you have good, clear facts, depending on what your article is about. Also, use precise grammar to explain your topic better. And make sure you do not have any run-on, or incomplete, sentences.
Keep your citations and references organized. Try to write an outline first, but also be ready and willing to deviate from the plans if any new and interesting ideas come along. Choose things that you are passionate about to write when you can. If you are assigned a topic you aren't interested in, find something within it to care about.
