Try a metal detector. Most septic tanks are concrete but the lids are usually metal. Once you narrow the search you can use a metal pole. Drive the pole into the ground around the area until you find the lid. It should be 12 inches or so below ground level.

All you will need is a metal probing rod with a handle. Go through the field probing every step. When it hits solid material over and over then thats it.

Well, look for basin or empty areas in the field that lead to sewage systems. If you see a drain, this may well lead the way.

Take a long tool that can be poked in the ground, rhubarb works nicely, but anything 3-5 feet long will work if you can stick it in the ground. Find grass that is growing the best. Poke your tool in the ground about 18 inches down if you hit a hard object, tank may be there.

The tank should have an access hatch that extends above ground. If it is concrete, use a metal detector. Follow the sewer line from the house to the tank.

Easiest way would be to find the pipe inside your house that the sewer leads to outside. The septic tank would be connected.

Well all you basically need to be looking for is an area which is not covered by grass. You need to look out for some vented areas with holes in them. This would lead you to find the septic system in no time. Also look for some uneven land area.

Locate where the main waist line leaves the building. The main line will be 4-6 inch diameter pipe with a clean out plug. Follow the line out toward the leach field. The leach field might have heavier vegetation growing over it. Use prod to poke the ground to find the septic tank between the building and the leach field.
