Kitchen hygiene involves keeping germs out and not giving any germs a chance to multiply. Don't allow raw meat juice to spill on anything. Wash cutting boards and knives with hot soapy water. Thoroughly wash produce items. Wash sponges frequently, then microwave until steaming. Never use a sponge on the floor. And make sure your refrigerator stays around 35 degrees.

Store meat on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator ONLY. Keep two seperate cutting boards available - one for meat and one for "other" (NEVER CONFUSE THEM). These steps will cut down on contamination. Also, when cooking something that involves meat and vegetables, wash your hands after touching the meat.

Have a large supply of antibacterial hand soap always available. It is imperative that you thoroughly wash your hands immediately after handling foods such as raw meat and eggs. Use an antibacterial cleaner to clean off countertops regularly. Vacuum either every day or every other day in order to keep crumbs to a minimum.

The first step would be to wipe or sweep up all crumbs. Second, use soap to clean up any meat juice or particles.
