First off, make sure you know the structure of the test, its different sections, and the different question formats. This will save you a lot of time, if you're familiar with everything in advance. The time limit is short, and many people have trouble finishing, so any time you can save will help you!

Take practice tests and mock exams, that is the best way to prepare for the tests. If you are having trouble in a particular area, find a tutor. Many can be found in local or online classifieds. There are also sites dedicated to helping you prepare for the GRE, may of which have online support.

If you are planning to take the GRE, you should make sure you get plenty of rest. You should try not to schedule the test during the same time you are taking final exams. You should try to prepare by taking mock exams and building your vocabulary. There are GRE guides available that can help you study.

GRE takers are advised to study Latin roots of words- if they do not already speak Latin. These will be of great help on the Analogies portion of the test—which contains many vocabulary words that may be better understood if the test-taker can break down the word into Latin roots to derive meaning.

For multiple choice questions, read all of the choices carefully. You can usually eliminate at least 2 wrong answers. Take your time. Get a good night's sleep, and chew gum if you can. It helps keep your brain engaged.
