You can buy rattan bin-style hampers that are quite neutral and look nice. Alternately you can buy laundry bags which hang from hooks so can be hidden in a wardrobe or be on display on the back of your door - places like Cath Kidston do them in pretty prints.

My daughter uses wicker. If you find a taller wicker container with a lid, it looks nice and being wicker, leaves a bit of air through.
