The alternator delivers electricity while the car is running. A bad alternator can result in dim headlights while driving, or shortened battery life.

it runs a little worse than what it did headlights are brighter and you could check how charged the battery is in you car

Well the biggest sign is a dead battery. You can check the output with a multimeter or some parts store will check it for free.
