The first thing is to ask what percentage of the rent they keep. You also ask if you are responsible for any advertising expenses. Ask if they do background and credit checks on any potential renters. Ask for references from other property owners. Ask how long they have been in business. Good luck!

Ask them what they charge as a percent of the monthly income. Do they require a credit report for new tenants and who pays for it. When a repair is needed do they call you or just do it and stick you for the bill.

What properties do you currently manage? Can you give me the names of the property owners you service? How long have you been in business?

Good Question. When looking for a property management firm for residential units look for references. The firm should have several references that at least believes the service is worth the referral. If not, run!

In order to find a good property manager there are a few things to take into consideration. You should find someone who has had prior experience either as a property manager or in a similar field. You want someone who is able to communicate with the residents as well as take care of problems that may arise.
