Some breeds are prone to breathing issues, heart conditions and diabetes. Older dogs are prone to kidney infections and failure.

Parasites, such as different types of worms are often, as well as arthritis as dogs get older. Cancer can also affect dogs at any age.

There are a few common ones. Dogs have strong immune systems. I would say back pain is a common problem with my dog. When his back hurts he won't eat and behave accordingly. I would consider that an illness. I also think that heart worm is a terrible illness and should be treated with pills.
