Some of the healthiest breeds are the mid sized types of dogs such as the Collie and Spanial. Large breeds like the Newfoundland, are prone to such issues as hip and back problems as well as short life spans. Small breeds such as the Pug are prone to breathing issues.

The American Indian dog. Australian Cattle Dog. Any other breed that hasn't been mucked around with, like the majority of 'pedigree' dogs. Too much irresponsible breeding for looks and breed standard rather than health. Showring breeders among the culprits. Breed from tested/screened stock. Research subject before breeding.

Dogs with the least health problems are usually mutts (less inbreeding), but all dog breeds can have health issues. Some of the healthiest include basenji, border collies and poodles. Always check with the breeder to see if your vet needs to run any special health checks.
