Some important study skills would include studying in a nice quiet place free from any and all distractions. A study partner may or may not be a good idea, depending on whether or not the two individuals work well together and are able to concentrate on the task at hand.

Keep everything organized by subject and due date. He should read a passage, then ask himself a few key questions before continuing. He should review each subject for 10 minutes every night so that most of the memory work is done before the big chapter tests occur. Finally, jot down anything he doesn't understand and ask his teacher for help.

THE most important study - and exam/test - skill you can teach your son is NOT to skim read. Always to read everything twice. It makes everything easier.

Study skills are very important for high school students because they are expected to be independent learners. Their teachers will not hold their hands to help them study for tests or quizzes, so a student will need to know how to best prepare himself.
