Use colors that are light and energizing. Light blues and yellows give you energy and open up the room. Also, include photos of your favorite outdoor places. That way, when you're running on the treadmill, you can pretend you're really out on the beach or in the rooms. Add extra touches like an exercise ball that matches your color scheme.

First, include some entertainment for when you're working out. Otherwise you'll get bored and might quit. You could get a flat-panel TV that you can face while you're on the stationary bicycle. You could also get a stereo for tunes while you work. Put pictures of people who are in the shape you want to be.

I would hang up pictures that motivate you to want to work out like athletes and people you want your body to look like. Also paper race numbers.

You could incorporate mirrors, as many home gym owners do. Also, you can hang a dry erase board to track your progress to motivate you to work harder. Something to keep a log of your work so far is essential for staying on task.

Good lighting that is not harsh is always one of the best ways to start. Mirrors are both beautiful and functional in a home gym. Having one wall of mirrors and the other with a wall size picture of an outdoor landscape would give the gym a relaxing and energizing feel. Make sure your flooring is functional for you.

The size of the machines should complement the size of the room;it should not make the room heaped up. Painting walls in attractive colours or add photos or mirrors.
