Keep in mind bougainvilleas like plenty of sun-at least five hours a day. You can train this plant to climb up a wall. You can secure bougainvillea to a trellis and create shapes you find pleasing. Patios and decks are excellent places to use this plant for decoration. You can use containers and place where you prefer.

Bougainvilleas come in many beautiful colors, but beware, because they're thorny. Don't plant them right next to your house unless you want to create a thorn barrier in a particular spot. Instead, put them somewhere that they'll have room to spread. They look great along fences, rock walls, and driveways.

Bougainvillea is often so covered with flowers that very little foliage is visible. To make up for the lack of green consider planting some foliage plants around its base.
