A unique gift can be anything you know the couple holds special. If they have been together for awhile, a nice scrapbook of photos and other mementos of their life together so far would be nice. Another idea might be some satin sheets or a big warm comforter for their bed.

A novel housewarming gift is a set of wind chimes. Wind chimes are supposed to bring good luck and promote the flow of positive energy and chi to a surrounding. Additionally, the chiming sound is very soothing, and your friends will certainly think of you every time the wind blows.

I think the best house warming gift you can get, would be to make a basket of some things they can use for their home. Or, give them a gift card for places where they can shop for things for their home. Or maybe a nice bottle of wine.

The new homeowners are close to you, so it needs to be something they can keep. If they like wine, you could consider a hand-made wine-rack or a sommelier set. Alternatively if they are dab hands in the kitchen a trivet made from a tile painted specially for them.
