There are plenty of other housewarming gifts you could give besides a bottle of wine. How about a plug-in air freshener? Or you could make a gift basket with light bulbs, batteries, candles, and a gift card to a lawn mowing service.

Housewarming parties are like household bridal showers. You take gifts that the person would use in a house kitchen items like silverware, dishes, drinking glasses, or stuff like towels or picture frames. One thing I think is nice is a laundry basket full of various cleaning supplies. Stuff people will need and use for setting up housekeeping.

A good housewarming gift could be a set of cooking pans. I believe you can never have enough utensils because you do not know when something is going to break or become unusable. Having spare pans is always an okay thing.
