What are some guidelines for addressing formal invitations?

Use a calligrapher or your computer to print out the address labels. For an unmarried couple: Miss Mary Smith and Mr. Robert Jones For a married couple: Mr. and Mrs. Johns Adams If addressing a married couple with different last names: Ms. Mary Smith and Mr. John Adams

Be sure to use the prefix "Mr, Mrs, Miss, Dr" etc. First initial are fine and make sure to list them in chronological age for children.

If at all possible, computerized or pre-made labels would be ideal for addressing. If that is not possible, make sure that your writing is clear, concise, and most importantly, you MUST spell all names correctly.

Always know the invitees exact titles and address the invitation accordingly. For instance, political, judicial and military officials are always to be addressed by title, rather than Mr. or Mrs. "Admiral and Mrs. Jones" or the Honorable Justice Smith" "Senator and Mr. Clinton" could be examples.

for Married people with children should have children's name listed in order of age, if there is a child over 18 they should receive their own invitation

The first thing is always put Mr, Mrs, Miss or Dr infront of every person. Addess them by their last names and not their first. Whenever possible avoid putting "and guest." Other than that as long as it gets to the right person with lots of time to respond it is all good.
