Make them think! Rhyming and riddles are fun. Be sure to consider your audience and make suitable clues for their age, intellect, and familiarity with area, etc.

Make the clues obvious but not too ridiculous. No one wants to spend a crazy amount of time to try to find the treasure. Make little riddles out of the clues.
