A short, different color, or simply designed dress is usually less formal. You can also try a cotton summer dress or a pant suit. The location you choose will also influence the level of formality as well.

An option for an informal wedding dress would be bought at a department or specialty store (Jcrew, Banana Republic). A short or Tea Length cotton dress would be lovely.

If it's your second wedding, I think a nice suit would work--pick a light toned fabric. But, actually actually anything YOU like and feel comfortable in is what you should go with. Make sure you accent your best features and try to hide things that you are self-conscious about. Go-for-it!

You could shop for a white suit if that is your taste. You could also look for a simple white or ivory dress off the rack. I've seen brides wear a white slip dress for beach weddings.

Consider choosing a dress in a color other than white if you are looking for an informal wedding dress. A pale yellow or pink would look beautiful for a spring wedding and a deep purple or light brown dress would look pretty in the fall. Plus you could wear it again!
