Personally I look for a young applicant to have had a newspaper route for at least one year. Doing a newspaper route requires many abilities required in modern business such as dedication, pride, accounting, customer service and strong accountability.

Newspaper delivery, grass mowing, shoveling snow, errand runner for a senior all are age appropriate jobs. Many senior citizens need housework done like washing dishes.

By law, minors can only work a certain number of hours. Food service and retail are always popular and have flexible hours. Other possibilities include libraries and animal shelters.
