There is a great Babysitter training course available through the YMCA, this course should be available at YMCA's nationwide. By the completion of this course, the person will be CPR (adult and child) and First Aid certified as well, which is an added bonus for caregivers. Also, check with your state or local American Red Cross.

Take a newborn care class that is comprehansive. It will teach you how to bathe, diaper and generally care for your baby. Infant CPR is a necessity.

Check with your local hospital or community center to see what is offered for infant caregiver classes. The best ones are those that teach cpr and infant hazards. Check with the American Red Cross as well.

First and foremost I would recommend an infant CPR and recussitation class and some sort of infant first aide course. Next may be a basic infant care class covering feeding, sleep patterns, and basic infant soothing techniques.
