There are a lot of printable activities for 5 year olds. Anything that practices skills like writing, cutting is great. My daughter likes making paper-bag puppets and sock puppets. We use foam shapes to make pictures or beads and string or lanyard for bracelets and necklaces. My kids also love to bake with me, or make play-doh.

Anything educational is a good activity for a 5 year old. Reading books or using educational games like leap frog are great and kids tend to enjoy them. You can also do other activities like coloring, hide and seek, or any type of crafts.

The best things are safe projects. Reading, writing, painting all do well. You can make science themed projects, like find all the bugs you can in the yard and name them. Or look up the names. Ditto for flowers and leaves found in the yard. Or send them out with a magnet and have them test metals in the house.

Take your kids on a nature walk to find pretty leaves on the ground. Have them arrange the leaves between two pieces of waxed paper. Press a dry hot iron on the leaves for a few seconds until the wax on the paper melts enough to hold them in place.
