There is a Greek Mythology story regarding Narcissus, he is where the word narcissism sprouts from. In this story, he falls in love with himself in the mirror image from a pond. His image does not love him back and he does of unrequited love, with himself. During the time this story was set they did not have mirrors.

Alexander Lowen wrote a book entitled "Narcissism". Dr. Anthony Benis wrote "Malignant Self Love: Narcissism Revisited". Psychologists Jean M. Twenge and W. Keith Campbell wrote "The Narcissism Epicdemic". Any of these are good.

What better than giving him a book telling the story of Narcissis himself. The way Narcissis meets his end will bring to fore the wastefulness of excess self revelry. If he still dosen't get the point you can give him "Why is it always about you" by Sandy Hotchkiss.
