What age group is good to read the Black Stallion series?

Somewhere around third grade is a good place for her to start reading them on her own, but if you can help her or want to read to her, earlier is fine also. The stories are a bit far-fetched for most post-elementary readers, however.

I read the black stallion books in the fifth grade, and fully enjoyed and comprehended them. Around that agre group is pretty ideal for the series, but they are still great for children older-though they won't exactly present a literary challenge at that point- and children a little younger, even though it might take them a while to read them.
