A very nice picture for the living room or family room would be appropriate. You would have to know what type of pictures that they like. Tickets to a movie or a concert would, most likely, be well received. Paper is the first year gift.

Purchasing gift cards is nice for any occasion. I suggest a card from a home improvement store or one to their favorite resturant. If you don't know where they perfer to eat and they're not one of those diy couples, get them a visa gift card and they can spend it where and when they want to.

There are many traditional gifts, but I think it makes more sense to ask what they would really enjoy: perhaps something special for their home they do not yet have, or tickets to an event they would truly love to attend.

engraved gifts are always nice like a throw blanket or a silver serving tray. The first anniversary is paper so maybe an engraved photo frame with their wedding picture or tickets for a concert. Maybe several small gifts like movie tickets, money, and a personalized stationary set. A gift certificate for a favorite activity, like bowling or a spa day.
