1) There are about 28,000 species of butterflies worldwide. 2) Butterfly wings are actually transparent, the colors come from overlapping scales. 3) Some butterflies, like the Monarch, are migratory. 4) To taste food, a butterfly must stand on it because there taste sensors are found in there feet. 5) Butterflies colors are used for camouflage.

Some varieties of butterflies have a white powdery substance on their wings. If the powder is rubbed off the butterfly cannot fly. To fly again, the butterfly produces more powder.
