Some glassy glazes need to be kilned, some are brush applied either before or after kilning. There are so many different types of glazing I would recommend getting a book.

One of the glazes is Silica which is a glass former. Another shiny glaze is lead and it is used on red items. High fire glazes also produe shiny exteriors they are sometimes called cone 10. Shiny glaze can be a distractor to your pieces so it needs to be used in a cautious way.

Ceramic glazes come to maturity at different temperatures in the kiln, you need to figure out what cone (temperature) you're working with before you can effectively figure out what glaze you want to use. Cone 06 glaze is one of the most accessible glazes (you could find it commercially rather easily) and has lots of options
