Most showers that are built without doors or a tub to serve as a splash guard are built with walls surrounding 3/4s of the shower area with space to hang a curtain at the opening. Without walls one must build a high water lip and insure the shower bar is low enough to prevent water damage in the bathroom.

Like larger public bathrooms, having a wall to walk around to get to the shower area is one idea. A tile bathroom that slopes toward the shower drain might work.

Floor to ceiling rock walls. An offset walled entrance to help keep the shower area itself warm, almost like a small maze to get in. This is how I designed my own bathroom and it's amazing, especially with two shower heads.

Open room and open shower designs use partial walls or wide open space to get by without doors. This means that the shower area needs to be large enough to be used without ruining any other bathroom fixtures. A partial wall stops most of the splattering but still feels very open.

Well some ideas include building an octave shower. That way you don't need to have a door and it will be great.

You can use a shower curtain instead of a door. It is just as effective in keeping the water inside the shower confinements.
