Some of the aptitudes that would benefit a firefighter are knot-tieing ability, physical fitness, values such as personal courgage, selfless service, and respect for chain of command, driving large vehicles, and navigation skills.

Some of the qualities which would be helpful as a firefighter are: courage, fearlessness, strength (physical and mental), and most importantly, a belief in the cause they are serving.

Firefighters are quick problem solvers, often having to make life or death decisions based on a limited set of information. Firefighters have to use ingenuity to come up with creative solutions in rescue operations. Firefighters must be in good physical and mental shape to handle the stresses of the position.
