There are no clinically tested treatments for bacterial vaginosis except for antibiotics such as clindamycin and metronidazole. It would be unwise to treat such a sensitive area with unproven materials.

Since bacterial vaginosis is not a sexually transmitted disease, it may not require alternative treatment or any treatment at all, unless the symptoms are really bothersome. Some experts say that it is caused by overgrowth of normal bacteria in the vagina. Thus using any "alternative" treatment may make the symptoms worsen
