A healthy mane is much like healthy hair on a person. The shinier, sleeker and fuller the mane, the more healthy it is. Manes that are dull, brittle and thin are not as healthy.

The signs in horses hair are much the same as a humans hair. Having a healthy shine and being strong are good signs. Dont worry about dirt and the like but check for bugs.

A horses mane could be considered comparable to human hair. In order for it to look healthy, it must have a natural luster. Also, it should not have split ends or frays. Since all horses are different, the thickness of the hair is not always a viable indicator of the health of the hair itself.

Some horses have naturally thin manes while some are thick. It shouldn't be too thin or stringy. A healthy mane will have a shine to it and have no frays.

Your horse will have a mane that has a nice shine to it. The hair isn't brittle and won't break off easy. It will be relatively the same length and have no split ends. The mane will not have tangles or sections missing.

The horses mane should be very shiny and look very soft as opposed to other horses! I always brushed my horses mane and braided it to help it grow!

The mane will be smooth to the touch, and not brittle and break easily. There won't be any flaky skin, bald areas, or irritated spots.
