Ribosomes are macromolecules composed of many proteins and ribosomal RNA. Their task in the cell is synthesis of proteins that the organism needs to survive. In a process called translation, messenger-RNA (mRNA) is funneled into the ribosome. The three letter genetic code is matched with corresponding aminoacids (1 per 3 RNA bases) which are then cross-linked to form a protein.
