The issue of the ticket should have been resolved before it was sent to collections. At this point, you would do well to seek legal assistance.

You need to contact who gave you a ticket and straighten it up. The police can write a letter to the agency and they will stop the collection on it.

You have the legal right to dispute any actions taken against you. I suggest you have all information to dispute the claim when you appear.

Your rights regarding the collections process vary by where the ticket was issued. In most areas, though you need to file an appeal on the ticket. Once an appeal has been filed you will recieve a court date to try to get released from liabilty of the ticket.

If the citation is wrong, have the issuer issue a correction. Then make sure they give both you and the agency notice that the debt is incorrect.

First, you don't have to deal with the collection agency at all. Second, they are not allowed to harass you after-hours, pretend to be law enforcement, or threaten you physically.
