What are "linear relationships?"

My boss referred to this in a meeting. I thought it was a math term.

Two quantities have a linear relationship if they are related by a proportionality constant such that the graph of one quantity against the other gives a straight line.

A linear relationship is when one factor is directly linked to another. There may be a multiplying number involved, but a change in one proportionally changes the other.
