Hardanger are simple embroidery patterns used for counted thread embroidery. They usually look like squares and are very simple patterns.

Hardanger patterns are actually a style of embroidery, originating in Norway. (Hardanger is Norwegian city.) It's a simple form of whitework (white thread on white fabric) involving counted thread stitches, drawn thread, and some work involving pulled thread. Hardanger patterns use tapestry needles and pearl cotton on Hardanger, Oslo, or Evenweave fabric.
