Since your basement isn't likely to have windows, you'll want to use colors that lighten up the space. Consider using light, bright tones such as baby blue/sky blue, beige, a light yellow or a light brown or even a pale green.

It depends if the basement has any natural light. If the room does have a window large enough to give a good light source, then any color you fancy. I would stick to fairly light shades in either case, but I dont think there are any hard and fast rules.

I would keep the colors of a basement neutral for example grey. Grey would work well because there will be less marks on the wall, especially if you are going to rent out your basement.
