Cytochromes are proteins containing iron that are found within a cell and serve as catalysts for oxidation-reduction reactions occuring within the cell.

Cytochromes are proteins found in the electron transport chain that help to carry out the electrons through the chain. They contain a heme group (made up of positively charged Fe ions) which help to carry the negatively charged electrons throughout the various stages of the electron transportation by passing the electrons to another cytochrome.
