Chlamydia is a bacterial infection and one of the most common STDs. In women, it can cause itching, burning, pain during sex or urination, abdominal pain, fever, painful periods, abnormal bleeding, and abnormal discharge. Because symptoms are not always readily apparent and because many vaginal infections have similar symptoms, it is best to see a doctor and get tested.

If you have chlamydia, symptoms start to appear 1 to 3 weeks after being exposed. Women who have symptoms might have an abnormal vaginal discharge or a burning sensation when urinating. You need to consult a physicain for treatment as soon as possible.

The most common symptoms include urethral discharge and dysuria. Others include diffuse arthralgia and joint pain or swelling. Also diffuse abdominal pain can occur. You friend needs to see a doctor to have a quick and painless urine test for chlamydia.
