Dog cones are used to keep the animal from licking, chewing or biting itself after it has been treated for something that it shouldn't like chew or bite. The only real alternative which is probably not better for the dog would be a muzzle that would keep it from being able to gets its mouth around areas it shouldn't.

Alternatives to dog cones is being with your dog, watching him constantly so he doesn't lick/chew the area in question. Reward the dog with a small treat when he does good to instill good behavior. Another approach would be to apply a topical spray with a bad taste, to persuade your dog not to chew and reapply as needed.

There are not really any alternatives to the cones. If you don't want your dog to lick or bite at the affected area then they need to wear a cone.

There are not a lot of alternatives to dog cones. The purpose of the cone is usually to prevent the dog from chewing on itself, so the other possibilities are "bitter apple" or a bandage or wrap of some kind.
