What advice can you give me for a family taking a family trip to Disneyland for the first time?

We have never traveled to Disney and would like information on the best places to see and things to do.

Do your research and then make a plan. Disneyland can be overwhelming and you don't want to be standing in the middle of dozens of options, confused about what to do next. Visit the Disney website and pick up one of the Disneyland books at the bookstore. The books are full of tips, tricks and planning ideas.

I would recommend staying at a resort that is as close as possible to disneyland. While there I would spend time in disneyland itself as well as epcott, and universal studios. As far as resturants ask your hotel what they recommend, however make sure to try some seafood since it will be fresh.

Plan to purchase at least a 2 day pass because it gets so crowded that you'll need more than a day to enjoy Disneyland. If you like thrill rides, Space Mountain is a must. For the kids, there are plenty of disney shows. For dining, Goofy's kitchen is a must.

If you stay in or right around the park you will pay dearly for it. It's cheaper to stay farther away and drive to the park.
