For American history try . Their historians are usually well trusted and information you get from there is good.

The best place to find an answer to a history question, is the library. Your librarian can direct you to reliable sources. These are generally books, monographs and articles written by scholars. If you have access to an online library, try using keywords. There are many unreliable sources on the Internet, make sure your source is a or .gov.
