car repairs

Question by  kalai24 (14)

The trunk lever in the car works but the trunk doesn't open. Only if someone was outside and lifted the trunk while the latch was being held will it open other than by key. Is there a way to fix this?

There should be a spring or something in the trunk that pushes the trunk up when the lever is pulled. If there is no spring there might be a rod that runs across and forces it up that may have fallen out of place.

IT sounds like you have a sticky latch or a weak trunk popper. If it has springs on the hinges they may be worn and need replaced. Also make sure the latch is lubricated and not catching on anything. The latch may need to be tweaked on way or another.

You need to get a new trunk lock mechanism, which can be bought for cheap on any used autoparts website or any salvage yards. The gears inside the lever seem to have gone bad. It is a basic uninstall and should take no longer than one to two hours or so.

Since you didn't mention the brand of car I can't give an exact answer but I can explain what is wrong. All trunk lids have a spring or rubber bushing that are under pressure when the lid is closed and push the lid open when the release is pulled.
