Adding an electric pump to an older carburated engine can improve starting in cases where an old mechanical pump isn't working. However it also requires adding a fuel pressure regulator.
you only use 6 volt parts on vehicles with a six volt system. a fuel pump does not help the car start it help pump fuel to the injectors or carb. if you put that pump on a 12 volt system you can damage the system and pump.
First check to see if the electrical system is 6 or 12 volt. No use starting a fire. Also, it might help to service the ignition system and carburetor.
I don't think there are any 6v automotive fuel pumps out there. Normal cars run 12 volts. Secondly if you install an aftermarket pump you will need a pressure regulator.
