You should worry about mold and mildew. You should also worry about where the dampness is coming from and could it be damaging the foundation or the framing. If it is just humidity use a dehumidifier or a desiccant like Damp Rid. If it water penetrating the foundation you may have to regrade, install drainage, or seal the foundation.

Yes you should. Damp conditions not only damage and warp wood it is also a breeding ground for mold. Mold can destroy valuables and also make you sick.
