Suitable substrates for Sudanese plated lizards include aspen, orchid bark, beech chips, moss, and sand (preferably digestible). Aragonite Reptile Sand is a completely digestible sand substrate.

Aspen bedding is not the ideal choice for a Sundan plated lizard, instead you should have a mixture of orchid bark shreds, and fertilizer free potting soil with some clean sand added so they can dig or climb as needed.
